ANZ centralises its investment processes

ANZ Wealth’s OnePath multi-manager offering and other investment processes across its Australian, New Zealand and Asian businesses have been centralised into a single CIO function of five divisions, following the ANZ’s termination of its relationship with ING last year.

At the time, Stewart Brentnall was appointed Global CIO for ANZ Wealth. The five divisions reporting into him are: investment strategy and asset allocation, which is headed by Mark Rider; investment product and research, headed by William Burkitt; portfolio management; investment compliance and CIO governance.

  • ANZ Wealth has signed up Mercer Investment Consulting for its general asset consulting advice and Towers Watson for specialist alternatives investment advice. Towers Watson’s alternatives consulting is now headed by Dania Zinurova, following a recent decision by former head Ross Barry to move to a part-time role. Barry, who is also a director of the infrastructure funds manager Palisade Investment Partners, is holding onto key super fund clients such as Qantas Super for the time being.

ANZ Wealth’s OnePath acquired the $10 billion OptiMix process in February last year, resulting in the departure of long-time head Emmanuel Calligeris, who had been running the multi-manager fund for nearly 20 years.

The bank-owned fund manager has also recruited former asset consultant Nigel Douglas, who left Perpetual Trustees last month. Douglas was most recently head of private wealth investment research for Perpetual, a position he held since April 2010. Prior to that he spent nine years at van Eyk Research, most recently as head of research.

Brentnall joined ANZ in February 2010 and was promoted to his current role in July last year. He was previously Head of Investment Solutions at BT Financial Group.
