Eight IP sets up advisory board

Allan Moss
Small-cap Aussie equities boutique Eight Investment Partners (8IP) has put two big names onto a new advisory board for the firm – Allan Moss and Simon Barrett.
The formation of the advisory board follows the recent win for 8IP of its first institutional mandate – a $55 million investment by Colonial First State – into the main Australian small-cap fund, which has almost doubled its funds under management in the process.
Stephen Walsh, an 8IP principal, said more advisory board members would be announced in due course. “We look forward to incorporating their insights into our investment and business strategies,” he said last week.
Moss is a former long-standing chief executive of Macquarie Bank, who retired from full time executive roles in 2008. He was at the bank for 31 years, of which the last 15 were as CEO and managing director. He was twice named by Barron’s Magazine as one of the 30 most respected CEOs in the world – in 2006 and 2007.
Simon Barrett is the chair of LEK Consulting Australia, a part of one of the world’s largest and most influential business strategy consulting firms. LEK was founded in 1983 in London and currently employs more than 1,000 professionals worldwide.
He leads the firm’s Australian transport and infrastructure practice, covering passenger transport (rail, light rail, bus and ferry), freight, roads, ports, aviation & airports. He has a wide variety of experience advising governments and private operators in many different aspects of transport including policy development, commercial strategy and operations.
Prior to the CFS mandate, announced in August, most of 8IP’s clients were high net worth investors. The manager was set up by Kerry Series and Stephen Walsh in 2009. It has about $120 million under management in small caps. Series is an experienced Asia equities manager who was also a founder of Perennial Investments.
